Patagonia Provisions Launches Regenerative Beer at Whole Foods

Patagonia Provisions, in partnership with Hopworks Urban Brewery (HUB) and The Land Institute, has announced the launch of the world’s first beer made with regenerative ingredients.

Long Root Ale is the first commercially available beer to be made with kernza—a perennial grain that can be grown year-round, with roots that live on in the ground through winter (traditional wheat, and most of the other grains we eat, are annual crops whig must be replanted anew every year and require seeds, fertilizers, and pesticides for each planting). Additional ingredients in Long Root Ale are all organically sourced.

Because of its dense root system, kernza growing down into the earth up to 10 feet, “builds soil quality and takes CO2 out of the atmosphere,” according to the Land Institute, the driving force behind kernza.

Patagonia Provisions believes the future of farming, and our planet, lies in organic regenerative agriculture – a practice that restores soil biodiversity, sequesters carbon and grows crops all without chemical fertilizers or pesticides.

Long Root Ale is now available at Whole Foods Market stores in California, Oregon and Washington.
